Valley Regional Hospital offers nutrition counseling to individuals and families for the prevention and treatment of medical conditions. A change in your eating habits can be important in the prevention, management and treatment of many medical conditions including diabetes, heart disease, and high blood pressure.

Your doctor may recommend nutrition counseling if you have been diagnosed with or are at risk for these and other conditions. A Registered Dietitian (RD) will help you determine which dietary changes are most helpful and provide strategies for making change successfully.

Excess body weight is a major factor contributing to risk of many chronic diseases. While this information is not news to many, people often struggle with achieving their desired weight. Working with a dietitian can help people understand and overcome issues and behaviors related to eating.

There are many paths to achieving your weight and health goals. You may meet once, several times, or even regularly with a Registered Dietitian. Sessions are educational, motivational, and enlightening. To start, you will undergo a comprehensive nutrition assessment looking at all factors relating to your food intake. Your nutrition counselor will help you develop specific goals for food intake, weight change, or wellness and provide support to help you meet those goals.

Nutrition counseling is sometimes covered by health insurance. Valley Regional Hospital accepts most major insurance plans. We also offer flexible payment plans, programs, and benefits counseling to individuals and families.
