Before Your Surgery
Within a week before your surgery, a registered nurse from the surgical services department will call to conduct your Pre-Admission interview. During the interview, the nurse will ask you questions about your health and the medicines you take. This will help us prepare for your individual needs during your hospital stay. The nurse may conduct the interview over the phone, or request that you come to the hospital. Before your surgery, the anesthesia provider will review your chart and any blood work, x-rays or EKGs that might be ordered. During your interview, the nurse will give you important information regarding your surgery, including:
- Day and time of your surgery
- Whether you can eat or drink beforehand
- Which medicine to take before coming to the hospital and which medicine you should stop taking temporarily before surgery
- What to bring if you will be staying in the hospital
The nurse will give this information to you both verbally and in written form.
