About Valley Regional Hospital's Daisy Program

The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses

The DAISY Award honors the compassionate care that our nurses give our patients and their families every day.  The recipients of this award personify Valley Regional Healthcare’s  dedication to patient-centered care through our guiding principles of Compassion, Accountability, Respect, Excellence, and Service. Throughout the year, we request nominations for exemplary service provided by members of our team, who are the backbone of our care.

Valley Regional holds  a ceremony dedicated to all our nurses and support staff, where we recognize a nurse(s) with the DAISY award. We also bring recognition to support staff with the newer Bumblebee Award. The bumblebee award is a reminder that a Daisy can’t sustain without its bees.

What does DAISY stand for?

An acronym for Diseases Attacking the Immune System, The DAISYFoundation was formed in November, 1999, by the family of J. Patrick Barnes who died at age 33 of complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP). The nursing care Patrick received when hospitalized profoundly touched his family.

Robert 'Bob' Pearce, RN - Medical/Surgical Unit

“My mother was admitted to the Med/Surg floor for comfort care … Robert treated Mom with respect, explaining everything he was going to do … he leaned over and told her he was there to take care of her and make her comfortable. He was also concerned about my needs. He is truly a professional who loves what he does. He was a blessing – like an angel to help us through the night.”
” … he was very personable . .. [and] he really cares for his patients as if they were his own family. He took the time to explain what care my husband was getting and what to expect for the outcome. ,,

2024 Daisy Award Winner

Sandra Boucher, RN - Care Management

“After Mom had passed away, my sister was having difficulty reaching the funeral director [out of town] . Sandra worked with us to possibly use a local funeral service since decisions needed to be made. She was a very professional, compassionate and supportive representative of your facility. It was such a relief to receive personal care in this world of budget cuts and understaffing. It was also very kind of the facility to offer coffee, water, fruit and snacks.”

‘She has taken wonderful care of my family through multiple visits. She is always cheerful and welcoming and VERY competent in her nursing care. She took extra steps to make sure my husband didn’t faint with his IV insertion and kept my son laughing and calm all through his procedure. I recognize when someone goes beyond the role she is amazing and is exactly the type of nurse I trust to care for my family. Thank you!”
