The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses
The DAISY Award honors the compassionate care that our nurses give our patients and their families every day. The recipients of this award personify Valley Regional Healthcare’s dedication to patient-centered care through our guiding principles of Integrity, Excellence, Accountability, and Compassion. Throughout the year, we request nominations for exemplary service provided by members of our team, who are the backbone of our care. Valley Regional holds a ceremony twice a year, dedicated to all our nurses, where we recognize one nurse with the DAISY award.

What does DAISY stand for?
An acronym for Diseases Attacking the Immune System, The DAISYFoundation was formed in November, 1999, by the family of J. Patrick Barnes who died at age 33 of complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP). The nursing care Patrick received when hospitalized profoundly touched his family.

2017 DAISY Award Winner
Kathy Chicoine, RN
You know when you walk in to a facility, you already are under stress for a procedure about to happen. The nurses are so wonderful with smiles and concerns for me and my family. They all go out of their way to make you feel at ease. The ride into surgery with nurses waiting for you in the procedure room they too were all smiling. It felt a place that was peaceful and no worries. All should get an award for their services. But this nurse sticks out, though. When I woke up, she was stroking my hair gently and said good morning as a ray of sunshine. She made me and my family laugh and before you knew it, it was time to leave. Thanks to all! And to her, Keep Smiling!
