Lymphedema Rehabilitation Services

Valley Regional Hospital
243 Elm Street
Claremont, NH 03743

We offer Lymphedema services in our outpatient rehab department. Our Certified Lymphedema Therapists tailor treatment plans to the individual patient. At the first appointment, we review the patient’s medical history and current issues/complaints, as well as take initial measurements. Following the evaluation, we work with the patient to develop a plan of care. The treatment for Lymphedema is called Complete Decongestive Therapy (CDT).

What is Lymphedema?

Chronic swelling under the skin caused by abnormal buildup of lymph fluid in tissue. Usually caused by damage to the lymphatic system after surgery, cancer related treatment, infection or genetics. Lymphedema can happen anywhere throughout the lymphatic system, but it is most commonly found in the following areas: face, chin, neck, breast, abdomen, chest wall, arm, underarm, hand, buttocks, genitals, legs, and feet.

Our Services:

  • Lymphedema Education
  • Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD)
  • Skin Care
  • Compression Bandaging
  • Exercises to Stimulate the Lymphatic System
  • Compression Garment Recommendations & Education

 CDT treats the following conditions:

  • Lymphedema
  • Post Surgical/Post Trauma Edema
  • Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS)
  • Dependent Edema
  • Edema Cased by Venous Insufficiency

Benefits of Lymphedema Therapy

Lymphedema therapy helps to decrease swelling, increase lymph drainage, improve skin condition, enhance function, relieve discomfort, and reduce the risk of skin inflammation or infection (cellulitis).
